HER LAND HER ECONOMY is a project aimed to improve quality and quantity of tea produced by 100 women farmers in Njombe region, enhance their marketing opportunities and build their economic resilience.

The project targets women who are smallholders from tea farming communities aged between 18-35, in Town Council of Njombe Region. These women are predominantly from underrepresented and vulnerable backgrounds mostly smallholder farmers who face economic and social marginalization. 

Activities:

  1. Project Inception meeting; At Regional and District offices.
  2. Assessment Studies; Baseline survey and End-line survey.
  3. Capacity Building; To women farmers.
  4. Forming a Network
  5. Community Awareness Campaigns
  6. Monitoring and Evaluation.

Project Impacts:

  1. Tea Production ad Income Tracking: Monitoring yields, value-added products, and income growth. 
  2. Market Access Metrics: Assessing participation in AFCFTA networks and regional/international market research. 
  3. Baseline and Endline Surveys: Capturing changes in economic participation and community influence. 
94% of women farmers in Tanzania are reported to having limited access to agricultural training and support services.


In Tanzania, women’s average monthly income is barely half that of men and many are not paid at all, with unpaid family helpers constituting 34.5 of those employed in agriculture.
